Talks I've Given at Meetings

These are various talks that I've given at meetings and recorded for posterity.

These are a collection of talks presented at various meetings along with the publications which at least in part stemmed from the talks. If the overall, general article in fact has been published, then that is presented first beneath the video. Otherwise the publications are indicated in their order of appearance.

2017, January:
Ecology, Applied and Otherwise, of Phage-Biofilm Interactions

(presented online for "Bacteriophages 2017")

The above talk was cut down from its original length and slightly speeded up to fit into the allotted time spot (it was a virtual meeting and I didn't have the bandwidth to give the talk live). The original version of the talk can be found here. Keep in mind that I gave this thing in one take with only a camera in the audience, and with me serving as both technician and cameraman. On the other hand, this was the first use of a green screen on my campus.☺

2016, October:
Storage of Phages as 'Living' Proteinaceous Drugs

(presented in Wuhan, China)

Not my most exciting talk, but potentially useful to some. It likely will be awhile before the presented material is published.

2016, September:
Ecology of Bacteriophages as Anti-Biofilm Agents

(presented in Champaign-Urbana, Indiana, U.S.A.)

The above talk was just a short overview, only about 13.5 minutes long. It was perhaps too short as towards the end I'm not sure I did a good job of indicating that we were looking at a phage therapy case study, or that "tender young leaves" refers to more recently replicated biofilm bacteria and "stems" less recently replicated areas of the same biofilms.

Of perhaps greatest interest, this talk was given less than 24 hours following a motorcycle accident and, yes, I still have blood from it on my face…

2016, September:
Phage Therapy from a Pharmacological Perspective: Various Perspectives on How to Improve the Art

(presented in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England)

The 'complaining' list is soon to be published (Abedon, 2018?) while the 'Steve's Rules' list towards the end has been published (Abedon, 2017).

2016, July:
Phages, "Herbivory", and Biofilms: Are Biofilm Bacteria Both Phage Susceptible and Phage Resistant?

(presented in Liverpool, England)

The 'Delay Hypothesis' aspect of this talk is now published.

2016, June:
Bacterial Biofilms, Phage Therapy, and Chronic Bacterial Infections – Complexity, Efficacy, and Mystery

(presented in Paris, France)

As presented, the material in this talk is now mostly published while the Google Scholar-based graph of phage therapy publications per year is in press.

2014, September:
Applied Ecology of Phage-Mediated Biocontrol

(presented as opening talk in Hiroshima, Japan)

The paper on phage therapy as applied ecology, the basis of the above talk, unfortunately has somewhat stalled at least as a whole piece on the subject.

2014, August:
Considering Phage Therapy Pharmacology: The Pulmonary Perspective

(presented as opening talk in Yanji, China)

2014, July:
Ecology of Phage-Biofilm Interactions: Theory and Application

(presented in Zurich, Switzerland)

Only a bit of the modeling presented in this talk has been published (Abedon, 2017). I apologize for having not gotten around to writing this up just yet.
